December

Super Friday, called by many Black Friday, was a huge day in our store. We opened at 6 am to a fairly large crowd. We had stocked up on some products priced to sell and sell they did. We had a terrific day and continue to be doing very well.

I just want to note here for future reference that my dad's best friend passed away yesterday morning. Eldon and his wife, Helen, were my parents best friends when I was born in 1949, and our families had many wonderful times together. My dad passed away in 2003 and mom in 2006. Eldon is now gone in 2009 leaving only Helen out of the four of them. I can picture so many times in my mind of both of them and their children. We never had a bad or difficult time ever. Eldon was the most gentle person I think I have ever encountered. My thoughts and prayers go out to Helen, Dale, Donna and Ferrin.

Eldon actually rescued me one time when I was convinced I was drowning in a river in Missouri on a camping trip. I can remember pretty clearly holding on to an inner tube that Donna was inside of when the bottom dropped out from under me and I lost my grip and went down a couple of times. Eldon grabbed me and took me to shallow water. I am amazed at how clear that event is to me, some 50 years later.

I close the next two nights at work then have Sunday off. Georgiann and I are planning to go to the Staunton Choral Society Christmas Concert on Sunday evening with our friends Pat & Chris then out to dinner. I hope the weather is reasonable. The weather channels are calling for 2-4 inches of snow on Saturday. I am not looking forward to snow. Experts are predicting a snow, wet winter for the Valley. Ugh!
