Most of what I present here is from my readings in printed books, but sometimes I reference articles and blogs from the Internet that I believe are worth your time to peruse. One such site is a blog I have followed for a while by a young Pastor in South Carolina named Tim. Tonight I was impressed to email Tim to let him know he has touched my life with his blogging. I would encourage you to check it out as well. The link is: http://timlyda.blogspot.com/. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
I frequently mention my books sitting here waiting my time to read, but one of them keeps calling me. "Reasonable Enthusiast" by Henry D. Rack subtitled John Wesley and the Rise of Methodism is a book I hope to not only read but understand and absorb. I grew up not knowing anything about my Christian heritage except what is found in scripture. While that is the real truth of the beginnings and the continuance of Christianity, there is much about what we believe and how we worship that can be credited to earlier church men and women. And to me it is important to know in part at least how we arrived at what we believe. I did not know of the differences between Calvin and John Wesley. While my parents and the fellowship of churches we are associated with would never admit to being Wesleyan, we were in fact. And my knowledge of this very erudite and holy man is almost non existent.
Another book on my desk is along the same lines, "Doctrinal Standards in the Wesleyan Tradition" by Thomas Oden. I have read part way through it and have found it helpful.
But I titled this entry Electronic Encouragement because there are some really good blogs and web sites on the Internet that are written by true men of God. I have mentioned the articles by Ron Gordon and he and I have had some email exchanges in which he has encouraged me as well. Another is really good one is Rick Warren's http://www.pastors.com/. I have been following that one a while.
Just a note to let you know I have not drop out of the race. I sometimes have to go into stealth mode to catch up!!
Blessings.
