Texas Inn

Today I drove to Lynchburg, VA to visit my friend Wayne who is in the Baptist Hospital recovering from gilliam berea syndrome. He looked much, much better. I was so happy to see him awake and alert. He is still paralyzed from just below his shoulders down, but he is alert and can see as good as before and hear as well. He can respond and has to form words with his mouth because the respirator tube still prevents sound. But to see him this far gives me great hope.

On the way out of town I stopped at the Texas Inn, a 75 year establishment that serves chile (their spelling), westerns, cheesy westerns, bowls, bowls all the way, and hots. Hot's are chili dogs if you have them anywhere else. If you know me or have read this blog much you know I am a MAJOR fan of chili dogs. Ate them for three years most every day in high school at Jim's Coney Island on 6th street in Tulsa, love the chili dogs at 7-11, love the chili dogs at Jesse's Lunch in Harrisonburg, VA and could eat my weight in them at Ben's Chili Bowl in north Washington DC. If you like greasy hole in the wall places to eat where the food is fabulous if not good for you then this place is worth your drive no matter where you are coming from.

The restaurant, a stretch of the word perhaps, claims to seat thousands, ten at a time. I think there are more like 12 or 14 stools at the counter, but they stay full around the clock. Parking is a bigger issue, but still worth it.

Located high above the James River on the south side at 5th street and Rivermont Avenue, up the hill from the 5th Street bridge. If the food scares you try the traditional frosted glass of buttermilk as a chaser. I don't do buttermilk.
